How to use the character counter
Type or paste text and the counts update instantly. Use it for essays, cover letters, tweets, meta descriptions, ad copy and anything else with a length limit.
With and without spaces
"Characters" counts everything including spaces and line breaks. "Without spaces" leaves out spaces, tabs and line breaks. Always check which one your form or platform uses.
Bytes
- UTF-8: English letters 1 byte, accented letters 2, Asian characters 3, emoji 4
- 2 per non-ASCII: 1 byte for ASCII and 2 for everything else, as in older SMS and legacy systems
